Love the recipes in this cookbook. They're great, adding freshness and invigorating our meals.My only downside thing about the cookbook is that the recipes are front/back of pages, and not side by side. In order to look at the recipe fully, one must flip the pages back and forth. I hate doing this in cookbooks. :-(
I initially picked this up from the library before buying because we don't eat red meat, and because I get most recipes from food blogs these days. However, it is so wonderful that I had to come buy it on Amazon! We've done the smoked paprika shrimp and the broccoli with lemon gremolata. Both were simple, fresh, and delicious. I have many more recipes bookmarked! The whole family, including the 1.5 year old, loved what we've made so far. These recipes are blessedly simple while still being tasty!
These recipes are exactly what I was hoping for -- AND HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR for a long time! They are simple, relatively few ingredients, healthy food, that can be prepared quickly. Suddenly, making dinner after work seems easier and more desirable than picking food up from somewhere. I also love her format for the recipes. Rather than saying "1 onion, diced; 2 carrots, chopped..." etc., she just lists the ingredients and then puts the dicing and chopping part into the recipe instructions. Such as, "...while your pan is heating up, dice the onion..." Novel approach but it's perfect for the "30 minutes or less" format!
There's nothing Ellie Krieger does it isn't great. I always have to laugh at all these people who say they have good diet some good nutrition and they look like hell, Ellie talks a good game and looks like she loves it. Dear Ellie,in today's world of 15 minute fame it seems like they passed you by far too soon, but in my book you're always going to be in the best nutritionist best cook and you look like you would live what you eat and eat which you live. Thank you for all the great recipes that will help us stay healthy.
This is another group of very good recipes from Ellie Krieger BUT many of them take longer than 30 minutes, some much longer.I have been cooking for over 40 years and I can move through the kitchen pretty quickly, but there are some of these recipes that take between 45 and 60 minutes to prepare. Perhaps if some prep were done in advance, the thirty minute timeframe is realistic. Still we have enjoyed the recipes in this book. I use it often but allow more time to get dinner on the table.
Good food - quick! This is a very good cookbook, filled with delicious recipes with a thought toward balanced eating and nutrition. It's always been easier to cook well on the weekend, but this book has helped us do better with dinner every night of the week.We are enjoying many of these recipes - and have added several to our "go-to" dinner plans!
Love Ellie's books. These meals are easy and delicious and most fit my clean eating diet. She has a newer book that tells how to freeze and store-a feature I wish this book had but have managed to figure out on my own. Her recipes are easy, tasty, healthy, and worth repeating. I have passed books around to friends and coworkers-many who loved them so much they are buying their own copy. I have about a dozen favorites from each book and several more to try-can't wait! BTW, I also find I can play around with the recipes to my own taste or based on what I have. I substituted dates for figs and almonds for pine nuts in a salad. Still perfect. Couldn't find sherry vinegar and substituted white wine vinegar-tasted great. I am not a good cook on my own but the simplicity and versatility of her recipes has given me confidence in the kitchen.
I did not watch Ms Krieger on television until recently and decided to try one of her cookbooks. I now have 3. Her recipes are simple and healthy. As a cancer survivor I am always on the lookout for recipes that are in line with my post cancer eating habits. A great cookbook.
