Got this Mystery Collection for free and its by far the best and the largest classic mystery collection and the quality is also great. The table of contents are easy to navigate which was something I worried about as most large volumes fail on this part and the tediousness of having to page through to get to one story. The table of contents gives you a complete list of stories for that volume which was what I was truly hoping for considering that other mystery volumes I've purchased were of poor quality and the table of content formatting was useless. When you select a volume, you are then taken to a full list of stories for that volume. Consists of Classic Crime, True Crime, Mystery, and Thriller. Wonderful collection of a wide selection of classic short stories.
E-artnow offers three of this exact same bundle bearing very similar, but not quite identical, titles. If you own one, you won't need either of the other two; their content is all the same. Like them, this provides a great many fabulous, old-fashioned, gaslight mysteries (all in the public domain, of course, and freely available individually that way) for those who like such fare and who don't already own them. Some of the series it contains are incomplete, so despite its size, you'll still need to obtain the missing works. (These include missing SHERLOCK HOLMES and FATHER BROWN stories, FOUR JUST MEN books, and others.) And its huge file-size might be problematic on some devices and a slow loader on all. Happily, it has an active TOC and is nicely formatted.So if you don't already own most of these, if you're not a completist, and if your device can easily handle a file of this immensity, this bundle will provide many hours of pleasant, escapist entertainment.
This is a HUGE bundle of old-fashioned mysteriesof late 19th century/early 20th century vintage. These tend to be wordier and more descriptive than modern mysteries, but they are well-written and literate. They may be escapist entertainment, but they have withstood the tests of time and taste. For readers new to acquiring ebooks, this is an instant library of such oldies -- and, to them, this might be quite appealing. In addition, it has an active TOC and is nicely formatted.But if you are a longtime downloader of ebooks and a fan of such mysterious fare, you likely already have most (or even ALL) of this bundle's content in previous ebook acquisitions. (I, for one, do.) And if (in acquiring them in the past) you chose very wisely, you probably have more complete collections than are provided here (at least for certain authors). For example, the Sherlock Holmes section here is missing stories from THE CASEBOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. Likewise, FATHER BROWN and BULLDOG DRUMMOND are incomplete. Edgar Wallace is the most heavily represented of all the authors in this bundle, but even his FOUR JUST MEN SERIES is not complete. There are others not fully represented as well. This means that, despite this bundle's immensity, you will still inevitably want to obtain those missing works in truly complete sets -- so you might be better off just getting them at the onset.In fact, acquiring these very same titles in smaller bundles will actually be handier in two ways: (1) Their downloads, back and forth from cloud storage to your device as you choose to read certain authors, will be quicker and less memory consuming than this immense file which takes an extremely long time to load. (2) The distinct titles of smaller bundles (such as THE COMPLETE FATHER BROWN STORIES, EDGAR WALLACE MYSTERIES, THE COMPLETE RAFFLES, etc.) will easily identify each bundle's specific content for future retrieval from cloud storage, unlike this title which merely refers to 350+ mixed books by numerous authors. (A year from now will you remember that among the 350 are 2 Agatha Christie novels?)The sheer size of this bundle might be a plus for some, but a big negative for others whose devices may become very sluggish (or even freeze) handling a file this large. In that case, more is NOT always better.So while I like each and every one of these old mystery thrillers, I'm not so happy with the size of this bundle and the incompleteness of some of the series within it. You'll have to measure its pros and cons to decide how worthwhile this bundle is to YOU; I much prefer a series of smaller, more distinct and more manageable ones.
It's great fun to have so many stories from which to choose. But the choosing is hard, since the Kindle edition doesn't have a way to know what the book contains and a way to jump around in selecting stories.
I have read "The Woman in White" only. It was a very good book. It held my interest to the end. I look forward to reading some of the other books soon. I enjoy the English shows because they usually deal with people personalitys and problems rather than violence..I hope the books will too.
Good books, even includes illustrations. Great price. But does crash the kindle app constantly; annoying. Not all books are mysteries. Most are older works and original versions. Consequently there can be archaic language or occasional references which are not 'PC'.
I'm no where near completed with this set, but so far am enjoying re-reading some old favorites and being introduced to new authors. I love British mysteries.
Perfect thing to download to have light reading along for the next time you are trapped on a long flight. Some classics, some unknown books, some of which seem good, some mixed, but for this kind of reading at this price zero complaints.
